Types of RF Coax Adapters
Understanding the types of RF coax adapters is crucial to selecting the right adapter for your application. Generally, they fall into three categories:
1. In-Series Adapters
Connect two connectors of the same type but possibly different genders.
Commonly used as gender changers or to extend cables.
Also called inline couplers or barrel adapters.
Example: SMA male to SMA female adapter.
2. Between-Series Adapters
Connect two different connector types.
Allow interconnection between systems with varying connector standards.
Example: BNC to N-type adapter.
3. Specialty Adapters
Include T-shaped adapters for signal splitting or combining.
Bulkhead or panel mount adapters for secure equipment integration.
Waterproof or ruggedized adapters for harsh environments.
