MCX & MMCX Series RF Connectors

MCX Connector Overview

MCX (Micro Coaxial) connectors are miniature RF connectors designed to provide reliable signal transmission in a compact form factor. Introduced in the 1980s and standardized under the European CECC 22220 specification, MCX connectors feature a snap-on coupling mechanism, 50-ohm impedance, and support frequencies up to 6 GHz. The outer diameter of an MCX plug is approximately 3.6 mm (0.14 inches), making it 30% smaller than the traditional SMB connectors.
MCX connectors are widely used in:
GPS modules
Automotive systems
RF test equipment
Consumer electronics requiring robust, quick-connect RF solutions

MMCX Connector Overview

MMCX (Micro-Miniature Coaxial) connectors are a smaller variant of MCX connectors, developed in the 1990s to cater to ultra-compact RF applications. With an outer diameter of about 2.4 mm (0.095 inches), MMCX connectors are approximately 30% smaller than MCX connectors. They also support 50-ohm impedance and frequencies up to 6 GHz.
A key feature of MMCX connectors is their 360° rotational snap-on coupling, providing enhanced flexibility in cable routing and device assembly. This makes MMCX connectors ideal for space-critical devices such as:
In-ear monitors
Mobile phones
Wearable technology
Small GPS receivers
